OVERVIEW

Quadriceps Muscle Strains

Anatomical illustration of human leg muscles, highlighting quadriceps groups for physical therapy education.

This injury is often caused by running sprints or stops that are too quick. A muscle strain can cause tenderness or a bulge in the tender area of your thigh. Lifting the thigh (a straight-leg raise), climbing/descending stairs or getting out of a seated place can exacerbate the pain.
